Four Rooms

I had a room
made of lilac sprays,
fireflies, bed ruffles
and rows of eyes
that fastened
me to my
future.

I had a room
made of pond water,
where duckweed leaned
above me like a fort
and on the surface
possum nails clicked
the sandstone path
like falling jacks.

I had a room
made of lyrics
scrawled on the slanted eaves
of my adolescence
and they demanded
immediate
and euphonious
justice.

I have a room
made of worry,
king snakes and coatimundi
and I'm here to tell you
that from the inside
these saguaro ribs
look like bars.

Hi, Alice~!

It’s great delight to receive your kind e-mail.

I, long, have been dreaming communicating with foreign book lover as a book mania. I guess you have a mountain of stories about your book reading life for 23 year through the reading promise.

Would you please tell me your beautiful stories about your life and reading further to Korean readers of your book, The Reading Promise?

In the future, you may come to Korea for your readers who eagerly want to see you and your farther. If it comes true, what a wonderful story it will be! ^^

Alice, if it’s possible for me to blog our e-mail communications open to the blog visitors? I believe that it will be very interesting to the Korean readers of your book.

I have finished the review on your book: http://blog.yes24.com/document/6694963 . Of course, you may not read it. Why don’t you learn Korean for pleasure and or as an investment on the future visit to Korea?^^

Some great things can be started by accidental suggestion. I have experienced some!

It must be a good omen that your roommate and my English name is Sunny, for which I’d like to add some intention.

In fact, I have been looking for a person to cooperate with on writing a book on ‘Happiness’. For your reference, I show you my e-mail to Mr. Brain as follows:

Hi~ Brian! This is an e-mail from Korea.

Dear Mr. Brian Gold:

I hope all your family would have returned home well.

It was my great pleasure to meet you and your family in the subway to BungCheom last 13 September. Retrospecting the occasional encounter with your family makes me smile with happiness. So pretty girls; Emma, Ava, and so kind, nice your wife; Dorie. Please let them know that l like them very much. Honestly speaking, I would like to thank you and Dorie very much for your adopting Korean child, for which I really respect you sincerely.

Id like to introduce myself to you for your understanding. My name is Sun-uk Kim and I am 44 years old. Just call me Sunny. My wife is Hyun-ok Kim. She is 42 years old and works for family. We have two chi1dren; 14 year old daughter and 13 years old son. We  live in the west area of Suwon city. In order to commute to my office in Seoul, I get on the subway in the Sungkyunkwan station where I say good-bye to you last time.

My hobby is reading books. While commuting to office, I always read book. It takes one and half hour to go to office from home. Usually I can read a book per week during commuting time only. And further by reading books every spare time, I can read almost 100 books a year. I have been reading for last 8 years. So its good for me to commute to office that long time. For memory, I have been writing reviews after reading books.

Now I am trying to write a book about reading, which is all possible because I have been reading many books. But what I really want is writing a book about happiness. If its possible Id like to press a book simultaneously in Korea and in North America within one or two years. Anyway this is my hope.

I would like to suggest one thing to you, if you dont mind. Why dont you teach me English (so that I can write a book about happiness)? I can teach your family Korean. ^.^ So both families can become good friends for life. ^^ You may contact me through my home page: http://www.myinglife.co.kr. Otherwise email will be fine.

Today I have to stop here even though I have many things that I want to talk because I cant express them well. I have to study English very hard in the future in order to communicate with you very closely.

I wish you would be very happy all the days. Please deliver my best regards to Dorie, Ava and Emma.

My best regards.

Sunny Kim

I haven’t yet received any answer from him. That’s a very disappointing thing for me. It may be a good opportunity.

Yet, it’s not easy for me to write in English because I have not used it for a long time. Please understand it even if I’m incorrect in my writing in English.

As a matter fact, I’m very happy to know you and your father through your book where I can find the very happy life by the great reading. For me, it seems that the book does address Happiness!

Yesterday, I have read a book to my wife for the first time! I wish this would be continued, forever, to the end of our marital life. I hope, someday in the future, my wife would suggest the Reading Promise, for which I am ready! Then it will be a miracle that the Reading Promise can make.

It’s a great pleasure to write to you!

Happiness by Action

Action seems to follow feeling, but really action and feeling go together;

and by regulating the action, which is under the more direct control of the will,
we can indirectly regulate the feeling,
which is not. Thus the sovereign voluntary path to cheerfulness,
if our cheerfulness be lost, is to sit up cheerfully and to act and speak as
if cheerfulness were already there.
- William James
